Yunior Mariño: Online Exclusive

1 - 31 May 2020
Overview

Yunior Marino, born in 1976 in Holguin, Cuba, completed his study at the infamous Instituto Superior de Artes before settling down in Miami to live. Yunior Marino, an artist in every sense of the word, works not only as a fine artist but also a musician and designer. Through all mediums, Marino seeks to investigate the universal questions of the cosmos, nature and time. Marino captures his audience with colourful details in his paintings, ethereal and moody tunes in his music and candid photography. He conceives the making of his paintings as mantras, in the sense that through repeating the same action again and again, his mind empties entirely. The act of painting becomes a form of meditation. He explains that the time and process of creating a work are the core of what the painting will signify, stating: ‘The way they were done is what they are’. Marino frames the art of creation as simply fixing what we have destroyed once before, he actively uses his past and the concept of passing time and universality to heal his present and future. For Marino, the art of creating is not restricted to the insular being, but encompasses the greater universe, his paintings represent what we are and not only ‘we’ as a race, but we as the ‘everything’. Working in four different countries, Marino has exhibited widely in the U.S, Canada, Mexico and Cuba.
