Socrates that practiçes music was formed in London in 2002 by Andy Cooke.
The London-based group have been compared to Bauhaus and A Certain Ratio, The Nightingales and The Mekons. Recently Socrates would be well described as a metagoth outfit that uses samplers, synths, guitars and drums to explore the occult, shire horses, legal wrangles and less-than-confident gardeners.
Recently Socrates headlined a large scale public performance in northern China as part of JUNIOR ASPIRIN LIFE SIZE MODEL. Other performances include RADICAL LANGUAGES in Kraków in 2012, PERFORMA 11 in 2011 in New York, Centre Georges Pompidou (as part of FUNHOUSE) 2010, and BE GLAD FOR THE SONG HAS NO END festival at Wysing Arts Centre Cambridge 2010, FESTIVELA at Gallery Vela in 2012, THE EVENT in Birmingham, and ESOTERICA at IBID Projects.
“The first LP “Further Conclusions Against an Italian Version (BAT) defies genre and attempts to eschew from comparisons. Minimalist pop, Art-Rock and experimental all equally fit the bill. Imagine the repetition of The Fall mating the quirky oddball songwriting of Robyn Hitchcock and your still not close to knowing what this band sounds like.”
